Critical Path: The Game ©

The schedule is one of the most challenging aspects of modern project management, and many team members don't know where the schedules come from. When they find out, they are often frustrated by the complexities of the network diagram. In this one- or two-day experience, team members get the opportunity to learn the intricacies of critical path calculation and network development. Using Pritchard Management Associates' acclaimed board game, they work through multiple rounds of game play, challenging themselves to achieve shorter, yet more realistic, schedules.

In this fast-paced two-day excursion through basic project management practice, team members get a chance to explore the core elements of project management practice, including objective development, work breakdown structure construction, schedule evaluation and basics of budgeting. Where do estimates come from? In many organizations, the answer to that question is alarmingly elusive. In this program, Pritchard Management Associates helps derive the answer for estimates ranging from the quick "ballpark" assessment to the detailed, bottom-up analysis. This program looks at a variety of tools and techniques, and considers both the value analysis involved in selecting resources (based on productivity and availability) as well as some profitability measures, including present value and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).

Following the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)® guidelines, this hands-on programs gives participants the opportunity to follow the entire risk management process: planning, identification, qualification, quantification, response development and response control. Participants will learn to integrate the risk management process with high-quality project management. They will work through a variety of risk strategies and have a clear understanding of how multiple strategies can be applied to single risks and how multiple risks may have common strategies.
